Vegas Golden Knights vs Nashville Predators 3-24-2022

 

The Golden Knights hosted the Nashville Predators looking to snap their two game losing streak. Vegas didn’t take long to generate offense. Mattias Janmark gave his team a 1-0 edge 1:31 into the game. Later in the period Nic Roy doubled Vegas’ lead with his 13th goal of the season. 

Evgenii Dadonov gave the Golden Knights a 3-0 advantage in his first game back in the lineup. Nashville got within two but Jack Eichel responded with his sixth of the season. All three 2nd period tallies were power play goals.

Leading 4-1 the Golden Knights defended well limiting the Predators chances on net. Vegas’ Chandler Stephenson took a one-time pass from Eichel on the power play to score the Golden Knights third man-advantage goal of the night. Late in the game Alex Pietrangelo tapped in VGK’s sixth goal of the game. 

The Golden Knights record improves to 35-28-4 dropping the Predators 6-1. Vegas will play a matinee on Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Puck drop against Chicago is set for 12 PM.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Florida Panthers 3-17-2022

 

The Golden Knights were back home to face the Florida Panthers trying to break their five game losing streak. Florida took the first lead of the game eight minutes in to the non-conference matchup. Vegas held together and created several quality opportunities which Brett Howden took advantage of. The 23-year-old forward made a nifty move scoring his sixth of the season. 

The Golden Knights broke the tie early in the middle period from the help of Evgenii Dadonov. The 33-year-old scored twice in the middle frame to stretch Vegas’ lead to 3-1. Florida scored late in the period to climb within one. 

Florida tied the game with a mid-period power play but Vegas would quickly respond. Nic Roy regained the Golden Knights lead :57 second later with his 12th goal of the season. Vegas fought off several attacks from Florida in the final minutes and sealed their victory with an empty net goal from William Karlsson. 

The Golden Knights break their losing streak  and improve their record to 33-26-4 defeating the Panthers 5-3. Vegas will get a chance to get back to back wins on Saturday against LA. Puck drop for an important divisional game is set for 1 PM.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Ottawa Senators 3-6-2022

The Golden Knights hosted the Ottawa Senators to try and string together a two-game winning streak. The first 20 minutes were open with 32 shots combined. 

Vegas took the first lead early in the middle frame when Jonathan Marchessault scored his 24th of the season. The Senators tied the game minutes later to take a 1-1 score into the 2nd intermission. 

The 3rd period tightened up as both goaltenders were flawless. Late in the period, Vegas was awarded a power play which they took advantage of. Jack Eichel scored the game-winner with six seconds remaining. It was the center’s third goal as a Golden Knight. 

The Golden Knights record improves to 32-21-4 defeating the Senators 2-1. Vegas will hit the road for the next five games starting in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Puck drop is set for 4 PM PT.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Boston Bruins 3-3-2022

The Bruins took the first lead of the game six minutes into the 1st period. Vegas competed hard and took several quality chances on net. After the opening 20 minutes the Golden Knights trailed 1-0.

The Bruins extended their lead in the middle frame 2-0 but the Golden Knights responded later in the period. Center Jack Eichel cut Boston’s lead in half with a beautiful drive to the net for his second goal of the season. Vegas was behind after 40 minutes but carried momentum in the second intermission.

Boston turned it on in the final period. The Bruins stretched their lead 4-1 scoring two additional goals. Jonathan Marchessault scored VGK’s second goal of the game but the visiting team tapped in an empty net to seal their victory.

The Golden Knights record drops to 30-21-4 falling to the Bruins 3-2. Vegas’ rough patch continues pocketing only five points in their last eight games. The team will take a quick trip to Anaheim for a matchup tomorrow night with the Ducks. Puck drop is set for 7P.

Vegas Golden Knights vs San Jose Sharks 3-1-2022

It didn’t take long for the Golden Knights to get on the board as Keegan Kolesar fired home a nifty feed from Brett Howden. Vegas got numerous odd-man breaks through the rest of the 1st but couldn’t extend the lead past 1-0.

San Jose answered back early in the 2nd, but the Golden Knights responded with a classic Misfit Line transition goal by Reilly Smith. After two, VGK had only conceded 10 shots on goal.

Smith tacked on another one early in the 3rd on a beautiful play from Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson. From there, the Golden Knights clamped down on defense allowing almost nothing of danger the rest of the period.

The Golden Knights win their 30th of the season and earn Pete DeBoer his 500th career victory pushing their record to 30-20-4. Next up is an Eastern Conference foe, the Boston Bruins. Puck drop at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday is at 7 PM.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Colorado Avalanche 2-26-2022

 

The Golden Knights tried to shake off a disappointing loss last night in Arizona by hosting the Colorado Avalanche at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas took the early lead when Chandler Stephenson scored his 14th goal of the season. Jack Eichel picked up another point earning an assist on the play. The Avalanche evened the score 1-1 right after the Golden Knights killed off a penalty. However, Vegas continued to pressure Colorado in their own zone and it paid off. Team leading goal scorer Jonathan Marchessault regained Vegas’ lead 2-1.

The game tightened up in the middle frame as both teams were forced to kill penalties. Laurent Brossoit was strong in net stopping all 12 shots on net. 

Colorado tied the game five minutes into the final period and took the lead :26 seconds later. The Golden Knights took several quality chances down the stretch but Avalanche defense and goaltending smothered every rebound. 

The Golden Knights record drops to 29-20-4 falling to the Avalanche 3-2. After losing two straight Vegas will get a chance to regroup before they play next on Tuesday night. Puck drop against the San Jose Sharks is set for 7 PM.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Los Angeles Kings 2-18-2022

The Golden Knights looked to end their losing streak by hosting the LA Kings for their third of four matchups this season. Vegas’ offense started off hot scoring two goals in the 1st period. Top forwards Max Pacioretty and Reilly Smith gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead. LA cut the lead in half late in the period trailing Vegas by one in the opening frame.

The Kings evened the score :30 into the 2nd period with a power play goal. Pacioretty regained Vegas’ lead adding his second of the night. LA tied the game 3-3 late in the period and took the momentum into the 2nd intermission.

Both teams played conservatively and defensively in the final period. Neither team allowed any quality opportunities and the game needed an overtime period to decide a winner. LA took the two points with a beautiful passing sequence for the game winning goal.

The Golden Knights record drops to 28-18-4 falling to the Kings in overtime. Vegas hits the road for the next two games beginning in San Jose on Sunday evening. Puck drop is set for 5 PM.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Buffalo Sabres 2-1-2022

 

The Golden Knights returned home from their four-game road trip to host the Buffalo Sabres. Vegas didn’t wait long to take the lead, scoring :33 seconds into the game. Reilly Smith scored his 12th of the season giving his team the early advantage. Brett Howden doubled the Golden Knights lead late in the opening period taking a 2-0 edge into the first intermission.

Jonathan Marchessault notched his 20th goal of the season with an early period power play, making it three goal advantage. Keegan Kolesar stretched Vegas’ lead to 4-0 with a shorthanded goal. Former Golden Knight Alex Tuch broke through late in the frame to get the Sabres on the board. 

Captain Mark Stone regained Vegas’ four goal lead scoring in front of Buffalo’s net 1:14 into the final period. The Sabres snuck another one by Robin Lehner to get within three. However, that would be the last goal, and the Golden Knights went on to win 5-2.

The Golden Knights record improves to 27-16-2 defeating the Sabres 5-2. The NHL All-Star break starts this week giving Vegas a week to rest before their next game. The Golden Knights next game is on Tuesday,  February 8th in Edmonton. Puck drop against the Oilers is set for 6P.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Montreal Canadiens 1-20-2022

 

The Golden Knights hosted the struggling Montreal Canadiens attempting to break out of their three game winless streak. Chandler Stephenson opened the scoring with his 12th goal of the season. Late in the period Montreal took advantage of a loose puck and tied the game 1-1.

Midway through the second period William Karlsson broke the tie on a Vegas power play. It was Karlsson’s sixth of the season. A few minutes later the Canadiens evened the score 2-2 with a power play goal of their own.

Montreal surprisingly took the lead six minutes into the final period but Vegas would take advantage of another man-advantage. Jonathan Marchessault tied the game scoring a second VGK power play goal of the night. The game needed overtime to decide a winner. Defenseman Shea Theodore ended the game 4-3 with a beautiful individual move in front of the Canadiens net.

The Golden Knights record improves to 24-15-1 defeating the Canadiens 4-3 in overtime. Vegas travels east for a four game road trip beginning in Washington. Puck drop against the Capitals is set for 4 PM on Monday.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Pittsburgh Penguins 1-17-2022

The Golden Knights took the first lead of the game on Chandler Stephenson’s 11th goal of the season. Evgenii Dadonov and Nic Roy added offense giving Vegas a 3-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes.

Pittsburgh started to warm up in the 2nd period scoring on an early power play opportunity. Less than a minute later the Penguins got within one. After 40 minutes the Golden Knights held a 3-2 edge.

It didn’t take long for Pittsburgh to tie the game in the 3rd period. The Penguins evened the score :28 into the final frame and took the lead two minutes later. They later added an empty net goal to score five unanswered goals. The Golden Knights had several late pushes but couldn’t close the gap.

The Golden Knights record drops to 23-15-1 falling 5-3 to the Penguins. Vegas next faces the team that knocked them out of the playoffs on Thursday night. Puck drop against the Montreal Canadiens is set for 7 PM.
