Vegas Golden Knights hockey is back! The 2024-25 season begins October 9th from the Fortress against the Colorado Avalanche. Expectations are high again for the Golden Knights coming into the 2024-25 season. Vegas’ lineup is considered one of the deepest in the Western Conference and are in a position to make their traditional playoff run. Mark Stone returns as captain, assisted by fellow 2023 Stanley Cup champions Jack Eichel and Alex Pietrangelo. The trio along with a mix of new and old teammates will strive for their second championship in three seasons.
Most of last season’s roster returned for the 2024-25 campaign. Original Misfits William Karlsson, Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore are back for their eighth season. Trade deadline acquisitions Tomas Hertl and Noah Hanifin are now comfortable and settled into their new city. Both will be heavily relied on by coach Bruce Cassidy. Hanifin will likely lead the team every night in ice time and will be called on in most situations. Hertl will be a major focal point to the Golden Knights offense. Routinely in San Jose the star center generated goals on even-strength and on the power play. All signs point to Hertl doing the same with Vegas.
New offensive weapons Alex Holtz and Victor Olofson become more options for Vegas’ skilled centers. Olofson previously played with Eichel in Buffalo from 2019 to 2021. The Swedish forward recorded 35 goals in that time span. Holtz had a career high 28 points last season with New Jersey. The 22-year-old forward registered 16 goal on 122 shots in 2023-24. Look for Holtz to match or exceed last season’s statistics.
Stanley Cup winning goaltender Adin Hill is back for his third season with Vegas. Over the last two seasons, the Golden Knights starter has wowed fans with dozens of game changing and game saving stops. Offseason acquisition Ilya Samsonov will start the season as Hill’s backup. Samsonov started five out of seven games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2024 playoffs.
Overall, the Golden Knights have the recipe for success in 2024-25. Vegas is strong down the middle with three top line centers like Eichel, Hertl and Karlsson. The foundation of the Golden Knights is their defense and it’s as strong as it’s ever been. Goaltending is solid and the coach has a proven record. This should be another exciting and successful season. Go Knights Go!
