The Golden Knights hosted their last regular season game to a crowd full of loyal, playoff thirsty fans. The fans were even more excited watching goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury play his first game since March 1st.
“It’s fun to get back into it and see a different game situation and get used to the speed of the game, finding pucks and battling through traffic. I guess that was the best thing about the game.” – Marc Andre Fleury
Star winger Mark Stone scored the game’s opening goal on a wicked backhand. Stone’s 33rd goal of the season made it 1-0 Vegas. Less than a minute later the desperate Coyotes even the score 1-1.
The second frame was tight as both teams locked down defensively. Arizona’s Derek Stepan gave his team the lead on a slick move to slip it past Fleury. The Coyotes would add another goal late in the period to take the 3-1 lead after forty minutes of action.
“The first period we felt was pretty good and after that we just didn’t build on it. Besides the first, we weren’t really so happy with our game. Like you said maybe its mentally tough, but you have to know that coming in and we have to build confidence going into the playoffs.” – Ryan Carpenter
The third was very choppy with very little action. The score remained 3-1 for most of the period until Arizona added a fourth goal with eight minutes remaining. The Golden Knights lost 4-1, finishing with a home record of (24-12-5) for the season.
“Our fans are unbelievable. They treat us great all season and it’s good that the last night the jerseys are off their backs and they get to see the fans and the fans come close to the players like you said, it’s a great thing to do. Like I said, our fans are second to none. They really get behind us and they help us a lot, so they are really important to our group.” – Gerard Gallant
The Golden Knights record drops to (43-31-7) with one game remaining. The team finishes off their regular season on Saturday in Los Angeles. Game time is scheduled for 730p.
