The Golden Knights hosted the Washington Capitals for a Sunday evening home game. Washington’s Alex Ovechkin opened the scoring with his 864th career goal. Midway into the period the Capitals doubled their lead to 2-0. Vegas’ Brett Howden cut Washington’s lead in half before the break.
Quickly into the middle frame, the Capitals regained their two goal advantage. Five minutes later Keegan Kolesar got Vegas within one. However, Ovechkin scored his second of the game to give his club a 4-2 advantage after two periods.
Vegas had several chances in the final frame but former Golden Knight goaltender Logan Thompson got it the way. Ovechkin added an empty netter to complete the hat trick and help the Caps seal a 5-2 win.
The Golden Knights record drops to 11-5-2 falling to the Capitals 5-2. Vegas will hit the road for a five-game road trip beginning in Toronto on Wednesday. Puck drop against the Maple Leafs is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
